Student loans: Real dumb question

I'm an adult college student

Have been in full out of pocket

Can one STILL get a student loans if this semesters
bill has already been paid in full?  

IOW.... get the loan and just put money BACK in the
bank?

Or must that check go direct to the school which means
its too late for me?
